Board Shorts For Women

Board shorts for women are a relatively new inclusion in the world of swimsuits for women. As such, you may only find board shorts for women (Wiki) popular in certain countries. Traditionally used by men, more and more women have been donning this style of beachwear. In the past, only surfers (Wiki) wore board shorts, which is where this particular swimwear derived its name from.

In the UK, they are commonly known as swim shorts while in Australia, they are called boardies. The one region of the world where board shorts for women are common place is in North America. This is primarily because its popularity grew beyond just surfing and into areas like skateboarding and beach volleyball (Wiki). As such, it influenced beach sportswear greatly. Board shorts for women may be looked at as entirely to masculine by some as they are not particularly good at revealing curves.

The one exception to this rule are short board shorts of various styles. They typically have a Velcro fly as a means to secure instead of an elastic waist. Additionally, they feature a lace tie, thereby adding double the security. This feature was primarily developed to ensure they didn't come off during surfing. Especially when the waves are particularly strong.

They normally have a single pocket that is covered by Velcro as a means of carrying small and light valuables. They are much longer (and wider) than traditional shorts that bear resemblance to oversized Bermuda shorts with funky patterns.

But there is reason for their great length. It protects leg hair from the strong sticky wax that layer all surfboards. This wax is strong enough to rip out hair. Board shorts for women are comfortable, decently priced and are available in a wide range of styles.
