Swimwear For Men

When looking at swimwear for men, the choices are rather narrow. But this is true not just when looking at swimwear for men (Wiki) but also when looking at men's fashion in general.
While women's fashion can be wild and daring, men's fashion is usually sublte, uniform and some say rather drab. As such, the choices available when buying swimwear for men are rather limited. In the past, both sexes wore one piece swimsuits.
However, men's swimwear evolved to a point where chest coverings were no longer thought to be necessary. But didn't stay true for long as today we have full bodied swimwear that are suitable for a variety of aquatic activities such as water polo, scuba diving and surfing.
The most famous swimwear for men variety are swimming briefs (Wiki), or popularly known as "Speedos". They are commonly known as Speedos because that company was the first company to introduce briefs into the swimwear industry.
They were made from Nylon and were first shown to the public during the Melbourne Olympics in 1956. Briefs were first invented in the 1940's and were primarily used as underwear before making its first foray into the swimwear industry.
They were meant as a better alternative to men's boxers. Other varieties in men's swimwear include board shorts, swimming trunks, fundoshi (Traditional Japanese swimwear) and square leg suits. Square leg suits are briefs that are much more modest. As such, it resembles a type of shorts almost.
Trunks are much like the men's boxer shorts, except shorter. These used to be quite popular in the past but with more fashion forward designs emerging from brands like Nike, Adidas and Speedo, they have been sidelined in the world of swimwear for men.
